When talking to younger kids I recommend talking about planting a tree. If possible, plant a physical tree (this can be started at any time). Investing money and planting a tree have a lot in common. Investing in a growth mutual fund grows money over time. The longer the time the bigger the amount. Talk to the child and ask them how high the tree will be in ten years. Then ask how high will it be in 20, 30, 40, and 50 years. You will get some interesting answers.
Transfer the discussion to money. How tall would your money tree be in 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 years? What would happen if you planted a tree every day? Over time you would have a forest! What would happen if you planted money every day? You will be rich! Let’s be smart and plant some money every day.
Let’s talk to our grandkids about planting a money forest!
